| Hello everyone! After having spent years on hard freeform work for the plastic injection mold industry using TopSolid/CAM, I'm facing a new obstacle - the all mighty Edgecam I started to get to hang of it pretty fast but the documentation is rather weak just as it was with TopSolid To make things worse, I moved from Heidenhain to Fanuc as well. Here's what I would like to know: Is it possible (and how?) to have a simple closed pocketing operation with helical plunge that would mill a hole for the head of a screw for example? The pocket would be defined with depth and diameter and a center point. The part is a 2d drawing in this case. Thankful for any thought on this matter... |

| without looking at your zip file, the profile cycle has a helical option on the depth tab. This is also depending on the license of EdgeCAM that you own. The cut increment will determine the amount of helical ramp. One revolution per cut increment. You could also use the roughing cycle. The first thing a roughing cycle tries to do in its approach into the work piece is try to plunge off the part. Where you are using 2d geometry, it will automatically use helical as its next option. The approach or lead tab of the roughing cycle has a ramp angle setting which will control the helical depth per revolution in a hole. If you still need more help, I will look into your geometry. Not sure where you are from, but M2 Technologies offers free support for EdgeCAM to there subscription customers. |
