How do I open a .nc file and post it in edgecam?

    Hi Guy's
    Great forum by the way.

I'm about to have some work from a company that use CATIA as their CAD/CAM package. They will do the programming for the part and send me the .nc file.
They will send me the model file as a .iges so i can open it up in edgecam, but how do I open up the .nc file into edgecam to run alongside the model so that i can post it to my machine and run it on the simulator? or is there a alternative route?
    My edgecam version is 12.5

    Thank's in advance

    Can't do it.

Edgecam can't open NC code, it can only create it via the post processor.
It goes Edgecam->Postprocessor->NC code, but can't go the other way.

Most CAM packages come with a 'backplotter' which allows you to visually see what the NC program is going to do, but for some unfathomable reason Edgecam is the only CAM program that doesn't have one.

To see what the NC code is doing, you'll need a third party backplotting program. I use Predator CNC editor and Mulit DNC CNC editor (which comes with their dnc software) - both are pretty good. Predator do a demo version at
    http://www.predator-software.com/Pre...r_Software.htm

Incidentally, if you've got the right licience on edgecam, you can open native CATIA files instead of Iges.

What you'll need to do is backplot the existing NC code to see what it does, replicate the program in Edgecam, and then post process it to your own machine. (i.e. create your own version of the their NC program)

    Thank's inflateable
I'll look into getting a third party backplotting program from the link you gave me, thank's.

I think edgecam v12.5 opens only CATIA v5 files the one I have is v4

What you'll need to do is backplot the existing NC code to see what it does, replicate the program in Edgecam, and then post process it to your own machine. (i.e. create your own version of the their NC program)
    Ok will do, thank's again.

NC Plot Is also a good G-Code editor and NC Verification tool.
