Solidworks into Edgecam

New to Edgecam

I've got "inch" Solidworks parts that I'm bringing into Edgecam. Edgecam opens these parts in "mm". I've tried to change the units, only to have a really big (by a factor of 25.4) part. Is there a way to tell Edgecam that I always want to work in inches? The only way i've found to get the right "size" part is to scale the geometry after it is in Edgecam by (1/25.4).

Thanks,

Are you sure the units are in Inches in Solidworks?

Are you in Inches when you opened the SWorks File in Edgecam?

Select Options, then Preferences.
Select INCH, click OK.

Select Options, New Defaults.
Type a file name such as "My Defaults" in the box labeled "Name"
Click OK

Select Options again, then click on "Select Defaults"
Click the browse button
find the "My Defaults" file you just created, its usually in C:\Program Files\Edgecam\cam\support
Once you have selected your "My Defaults" file, be sure to change the "Load on Entry" drop down box to "Selected File" this is important, as it tells EdgeCam this is the defaults file you want to load when you start edgecam, or open a new model.
Click OK.

Your done.

WISP,

Thanks for the detailed instructions. I made sure to follow them closely. Unfortunately, as soon as I click the last "ok" just after I've changed the "load on Entry" drop box to "selected file" the units in the right hand corner switch from IN to MM. I am running this software in the evaluation/student mode, would this make any difference? I read somewhere about when installing Edgecam that you can choose between "inch" and "mm". Should I just re-install the software?

Thanks again

Ok, Got it finally!

This worked:
From the Yahoo user group...

To swith Edgcam unit, you can go to Option-New Defaults; select
mill_inch.dft or turn_inch.dft from the Browe...; then Select File
from
Load on Entry. After that you need re-load file.

Actually all I had to do was:

Options
-New Defaults
Select: "mill_inch.dft"
-Load on Entry in the "Selected File" text box
