    Edgecam & Inventor files

Anyone experiencing problems generating good nc code from an inventor solid? We are using 2011 R2. Post may have issues, but I believe it should work.

Trying to machine a face and a diameter (o.d.) with a 3/4 end mill. Using the solid to define the profiling cycle generates hundreds of lines of code and the G2's & G3's are not specified correctly - CPL is the centerline of the part so I's & J's should come out as I0, J0 unless the radius being cut is a lead in or lead out. Machine being used requires absolute values for I & J.

For arguments sake, we projected the diameter & selected wireframe - used the same profiling cycle to recut the same feature - NC code looks perfect.

Anyone have a clue if this is software related or do I need to get to work on the post processor?

Have you tried making the tolerance smaller? i have seen that edgecam loves straight lines and it opts for 100 segments rather then a circle as soon as the tolerans is to low.
I dont have Inventor this was just a "thought on the side of things"

not an edgeCAM seasoned person but am certainly an inventor professional...

For instance, when working in inventor the default finite precision point is to 4 thousanth of a micron and, knowing the basics of operations with Citizen M32's this can cause problems and usually does when working with surface toelrances with MMVT or MMT on milled parts.. ive certainly had this when working with investment casted parts for oil rigs.

The only solution is that to reduce the tolerances in the Inventor Part of assembly file. youve statd that you cannot do this as you dont have inventor, but the should be a primary Excel sheet with the inventor file youre working with. You can change it there assuming you know what your doing...

Other than that, all I can suggest is look at the first principle draft, and manually input the amended tolerances in. However im not an EdgeCAM specialist, so I dont know how this is done...
