The company I work for is thinking about swicthing to Edgecam. What are the pros and cons about the software. We currently use UG NX 7.0, for the manufacture of stamping dies with 3 axis mills, and one hurco 5 axis. |

| I cant compare the two because i only know EC but... good: You can get and install tho whole program without a license and then try it with the full functionality without first buying it. Bad: its not easy to understand how to use it without going to training. Bad: the student mode gives you all functionality and i found out the hard way that there are 3, 4 and 5 axis milling licens versions. and also basic, advanced and professional for atleast 3axis version. if you make molds i would say you have to get the professional version. The strategy manager is good if you have big volumes of parts to process but it costs extra. I know i did not answed your question but maybe it helps anyway to understand the costs (this was a thing my reseller never told me about before he sold me the wrong version) |

| UG NX is to complex for simple 5 axis work, And Edgecam is too simple for complex 5 axis work. Greetings Ray |

| What would be everybodys overall impression of edgecam. Would you recomend it over other cam packages. Is it user friendly to navigate, create geometry, and to build post processers. We will mostly use it for 3 axis milling and wire edm. |

| I would answer "No" to all of your questions, with the exception of writing posts. Cool post generator interface. If you have NX7 why would you need anything else. I played with NX6 and was able to design a part and toolpath it in about 2.5 hours, having never seen it before. I liked NX.

| hi i am currently working with nx5 previously i had worked in nx2,if u compare toolpaths in nx2 with edgecam the edgecam is very poor.the main drawback of edgecam is it can not remember the model means to say it will mill away the required profiles also without giving giving any gouge errors.so as a programmer every thing will depend on u.whre as in nx if say this is my part and this is my blank then nx will take care almost every thing, even in edgecam if i am maching a face from solid model it wont rememeber the face belongs to solid model u need to manually control the toolpath from machining away the other faces from solid.if u want peace of mind i recommond nx7...........thank you. |
