    Default Peck drilling parameters

    Hi Tom,

Wondering if there might be some way to adjust the point at which the machine switches from rapid to feed when peck drilling. Like start feeding some amount (0.050" maybe) above the previous drilled depth after retracting to clear chips. Is there any clearance now or does it rapid right to where it left off?

Occasionally when peck drilling larger holes, I seem to run into problems with chips falling into the hole, and then crashing into them on the next peck. This week I was drilling a deep 21mm hole in steel and this happend a couple times and damaged my spindle bearings.

I think the mazak I used to run at my last job had a parameter to adjust this. Would be nice if we could do the same.

    Hi Mark,

The G83 rapids down to a hard coded distance of 0.01 inches from the previous depth. I suppose we could add a parameter P? to override this amount. Would that work for you?

    Hi Tom,

You mean right in the G code? So it would look something like this:

    G83 Z-2.000 R0.100 F5. Q0.2 P.05

That should work great if its not much trouble to change.

    Hi Mark,

I decided to use the K word for the Rapid delta as P is commonly used for a dwell at the bottom. The P dwell should now be allowed also.

    G83 (Canned Peck Drill) Z final z, R Retract z, Q peck dist, F feedrate, P dwell sec, K rapid delta

    so for example

    G98 G83 Z-.5 R.1 Q.1 F2. P2.5 K0.05

Here is a patch for Version V4.35b. Copy to C:\KMotion435b\KMotion\Release

Please let us know if there are any issues.

Sources are here if you need them.

    Hi Tom,

Thank you! This should work perfect. Was hoping to try this today but had a few things come up. Will try it in a day or so and post results.

I wish I had asked about this sooner. Thanks.

Hi Tom, doing some maintenance on my machine today and I remembered that I didn't follow up with you about this. I just wanted to let you know that this worked perfectly, and its a very helpful feature for me sometimes when doing larger holes with heavy feed and thick chips. Thanks again.
