First thought messed up encoder signals. First idea particles on the encoder disc giving bad signals.

    Gently blow out position encoder.

Physically follow the encoder signal cable from the motor to the driver looking for cuts, kinks and chaffing.

Does the position change when moving in emergency mode?

    Hope that helps.

Thanks for your response.I believe this machine is open loop. I don't see any encoders other than the spindle. There is no readout of axis position in emergency mode

Fixed the axis problem. The working limits needed to be reset. Control is pretty archaic. Machine is a good candidate for a conversion. But I know little about electronics and I have a very small budget.

Control is simple if it all works.

If it is an open loop motion then it must be stepper motors with driver modules.

If that is the case it might not be very expensive to update the control system.

Trace the motor cables back to the control box and see if there is a module for each motor.

If that is the case it gets easy because it is pretty easy to find step/clock and direction signal inputs.

You can keep your existing electronics and just add an interface to the host computer.

As usual though if it does the job, why bother.

    Cheers
