Newbie- How to make an angled radius cut....

Hello all,
I am new to CNC's and Dolphin Cad/Cam. I have been using the software for a little over a week and have learned alot, but now I am stuck. I am trying to make an angled radius cut, not sure if that is the right descrption, and cannot figure out how. can someone help? If you need more information feel free to let me know.

Hi,
It would help to see the drawing or a sketch. Is the angled radius in one plane or positioned accross more than one plane? It's kind of hard to visualize what you need done without seeing the sketch.

Sorry for taking so long to reply. After speaking with Dolphin Cam on Friday they were SUPOSE to send me the information I needed to complete this operation. While I continue to wait for them I look to some of you end users for help.......

I looked at the .pdf files you posted, and if I am seeing it right the part is going to get a bevel or
chamfer at one end and the shape at that end is a 21" radius. Which level of Dolphin CAD/CAM
do you have? I think you will need Level 3 to create this profile, but if it is a 45° angle or any angle
that you have or can get a cutter for the bevel, then you should be able to do this with a chamfering
tool on the center or the toolpath and then control the width of the bevel with the depth of the cut.
You can draw a duplicate radius parallel to the radiused bevel and use this to create the toolpath
for this feature also and this will make it possible to use a cutter that is not pointed etc.I think this
method can be created with Level 1, 2, or 3 of Dolphin CAD/CAM milling.
If this is not a simple 45°chamfer(or angle that you can get a cutter for) I think you will need to
create a profile of the chamfer(bevel) for a ball nose tool and apply that profile to the edge that
needs the radius. This type of toolpath will most likely require using Dolphin Level 3 milling. Let
me know if I am visualizing your part correctly and if you have more information or questions.

If I am visualizing this part correctly you just need a 45 degree cutter to put the angle along the edge and run the radius profile.

Run the toolpath first to cut the profile and as metalworkz suggested use the z depth to determine the bevel length.

Thanks for the insight metalworkz, you are seeing it correct. The face of the radius cut is also a radius. It can be done at a 45 degree angle but it does not fit as well as I would like it. Rodney and Chad at Dolphin have been working on it for me and emailed me a file. I have not yet had time to look at it. I was trying to create a Z profile but cannot figure out how to make it work. As soon as I have a chance to look over the email for the guys at Dolphin I will post an update.

I am sure Rodney and Chad have already hooked you up with the needed profile drawing but the earlier post I linked to will help you do it yourself if needed at another time.
You should be able to apply this same method to the creation of the toolpath for your profile. Just use your information to draw the view of the radiused edge and then apply it to the 21" radiused edge.

In the goround function select your large radius as a contour and go to the z profile tab to select your small radius as a profile, give it a depth and go. You will need to have a ball mill.

Thanks for the help, sorry I have not replyed sooner. I have been rather busy at work and at home. I have looked at the file from Dolphin and not sure if it is what I need. I will work on this issue more next week. At this time due to pressure to finish this project I have found a way to create a useable cut. I feel the Z profile is what I need, just have to learn how to set it up...........more to come.........
