I am using two similar tools to turn a stepped round between centers with Dolphin turnmaster V10. One tool is a right hand and the other is a left hand. I start with the right hand, then switch to the left hand. However the left hand is travelling too far on the Z axis by the size of the width of the tool (.380 wide). I tried setting the Zoffset of my second tool to -.380 and then to .380 without success. What am I missing???? Thank you! |

You are missing quite a lot in your question. I take it you are using Dolphin to draw the part. What controller/software are you using to machine it. Phil |

| I am using a Flashcut controller... Everything APPEARS to postprocess well in Partmaster, however when I take it to the machine I have the second tool travelling too far on the Z axis. The "extra travel" equals the actual width of the turning tools : .380" wide. |

| When using left and right hand tools the Z datum position for each tool needs to be looked at. A right hand tool will have the datum in Z at the leftmost part of the tool, a left hand tool will be the opposite of this with the Z datum at the rightmost part of the tool. You need to take this into account when loading the tools on the machine and setting the datum points accordingly. When your defining the tools have a look at the tool graphic to see where the datum is. What tools are you using ? You can upload the file here and I will take a look at it for you. ATB Andre |
