Newbie Problem Expanded - Import DXF file

I want to use an outline drawing as part of a machining operation.
I initially tried to import the drawing into PartMaster by importing it as a bmp. (previous thread)
However I learned that the bmp was for reference only, and that it would have to be re-traced.
I did the retrace, but couldn't figure out how to remove the original bmp...
So... I figured a dxf file would surely work.
I re-traced the bmp with a program I was more familiar with (turbocad) and saved it as a dxf.
I then imported that drawing into PartMaster.
If I have a drawing already in place, the new dxf will cover it and will not let me access what's underneath.
If I import first, I can see both the dxf and my new drawing but am still unable to manipulate the dxf (re-size).
I realize there is a learning curve (cliff?) involved here, but where should I start to climb?
(BTW I was never able to play that html file Andre so kindly made...)

Go back to partmaster cad to trace your .bmp but use a different layer. That way you can lock it out then select all and delete the .bmp. It also helps with tracing to be able to hide the .bmp to check you work.

Sqatch, I think I'm going to have to make a better effort to understand layering. I think Dolphin may have a video that does just that on its website (Layer Gallery). Thanks for the tip...

Interesting... Went to see video on Layers, only to see message that it was coming soon.
Thought I'd check the European site (dolphincadcam.com) where they also have videos, but while their video is available, I got a virus warning that the program was infected and I shouldn't view it....
Rats...

Rather than a video, it may be time to hit the manual and hope for the best.
