Which post processor should I use for generating code for LinuxCNC/EMC?

    Hi Cboyce,

On the new site (www.dolphincadcamusa.com), you'll see the post processors tab on the left side menus at the bottom. If you go into the PP page, you should find the EMC.

Hm, I searched for 'EMC' on the Dolphin Partmaster Post Processors page but the closest I found was one labeled "Emco TM 02 Milling machine with EMCO Controller". Am I looking in the wrong place?

If I am not mistaken, I am pretty sure that the Sherline machines use the EMC.
Try the Sherline Table Top Mill. Post name- M_EMC 16Jan07.

If that post works or is close, we can rename it. If it needs any tweaks, just le us know.

Sherline used a modifed version of what is now refered to as EMC1. This is several years out of date.

EMC2 (v2.2.8) is the current version. It does all sorts of things not even dreamed up when the original EMC was in use.

    Like what ?

Most of the entry level post processors are very simple and share many features.
Mach3 is based on EMC as regards a lot of it's core operating system. Both are also closely related to the Fanuc F6 controller as well.

I post for two controllers, the old DOS Ahha controller and Mach3 and have custom PP's for both but other than two lines in the start up routine they are identical in output.

If I edited these two lines either way I can use either G Code file on either machine. Both these posts support 4th axis so either try a couple of differnt post to see what it spits out or get a list of commands that EMC2 supports and list them here.

What post processor do I use to output a lathe job to EMC2?

    Thanks!

    Hi...

Since my last post I have bought the Dolphin software package and I'm attempting to set it up for first use. I too cannot find the post processor for my Sherline Lathe.

The M_EMC 16Jan07 suggestion above guides me to a broken link.

Any other suggestions please and thank you.

    Goose

I have attached it, you just need to unzip it.

    IMPORTING POSTS

Having received a new or modified post processor, you will need to import it.

To do this double click the PartMaster Post Processor icon from your desktop, from the top toolbar choose Import
and browse to the folder where the modified post processor was saved.

When the file has been imported you will see the contents in the display area, next choose Compile from the top toolbar to create the .ppx file.

The new post-processor is now ready for use. Close the post-processor by using File > Exit.

When you next run DCAM the post processor will appear in the drop down list along with all original posts.

    Great! Thank you...

I imported the file into the Post Processor module with no trouble. I can't however select it in the lathe module as the selection box appears to filter on the suffix 'T_' as opposed to 'M_'

I'm sure the Mill & Turing PP's are different but just for fun I copied it, renamed it with a T_ suffix and successfully compiled it however I get an error immediately afterwards:

The Post-processo "T_EMC_2_04JUN12 - Copy" is V10 or earlier, the current PartMaster Dcam is V12.
There have been modifications to the way in which Dcam Turning generates the NC program.

Please contact postprocessor@dolphincadcam.com to obtain an update.

    Thanks

    Goose

Thank you sir, installed without issue.

My first job has some issues however seemingly not with Dolphin but the output stage which I'll get some help for directly from Dolphin.

    Cheers

Ok, so I took the the file M_EMC_2_04June12_V12 and renamed the prefix to T just like V8goose did. I then tried to post process a lathe file and got the error (see attachment) that the V12 file was actually a V10 file. So what gives? How do I get a Post for LinuxCNC/EMC?

    Thanks,

    John C
