    Default Motor sizing for Bridgeport Rigid head cnc mil

    I am retrofitting a Bridgeport Boss R2E4 CNC Mill and I am wondering what size of AC servo motors I need to replace the old DC servo motors. this KW sizing has me all confused.....


    Bridgeport R2E4 Rigid Head cnc mill

    Powertron Permanent magnet dc servo motor
    Rated tourque 30 inch pounds
    Max voltage 146
    Max RMS Amps 14.6
    Max Pulse amps 58.3
    Frame C402-3
    Model # 402CNSpo572
    serial # 15347

    any help would be greatly appreciated

    Does your mill have a 2:1 Timing Pulley Ratio, then with the Dmm 750w is all you need, I have used them at 1:1 Timing Pulley Ratio on the Boss machines, post a photo of your machine, what series machines do you have

    Yes you have a series 1 you will be fine with the 750w motors

    Straight from the manual. This motor can't make 30lb-in at speed. The manual says the stock servos are 284 watts. Correct me if I'm wrong but the ac brushless servos make rated torque up to the rated rpm, with a flat torque curve like an induction motor, right? 400 watt ac servo may be a closer match to the original motors except for low speed and holding torque.

    That said, I think I'm going with 750 watt servo motors on my boss.
