Stuttering stepper motor.

The stepper run smoothly in the middle of the x-axis but at the ends it starts stuttering and makes a terrible noise.

The stepper run smoothly in the middle of the x-axis but at the ends it starts stuttering and makes a terrible noise.

What can be wrong??

It can be that your lead nut is not properly centered at each end of the X axis. The lead screw is flexing near center span so that the binding is lessened enough to reduce the amount of strain on the motor.

The noise is the motor missing steps. It does not harm a stepper motor but the axis does not move properly.
