CNC electronics kit , which one ?

My first post but I've been a member for quite a while . I've searched all over but I cant find any info on a comparison of some of the kits out there.

First off , I'm not sure where to post this so I decided to post here because I will be using the machine for making guitars.

I will be making a home made machine and buying a kit for all of the electronics. I will be mostly using the kit for routing neck pockets and body shapes and pickup cavity's and inlay work.

Im wondering what I should stay away from or what I should be looking for. First off there are some kits on Ebay for a real good price.

So is there anything I should stay away from or are they all pretty much going to give me the same problems or lack there of? Anyone suggest something else or a place on this forum with more info on what Im looking for? Or a place I should post this question instead of here.

A lot of the cheaper kits out there use unipolar motors -- these basically have windings with a tap in the middle, so you're only using half of the windings at one time. The electronics to drive these are cheaper, but the motors have less torque, and you can't upgrade to better bipolar motors later if you have a unipolar driver. You can read more about this here:

Personally, I would go with a system based on the Gecko G540. They're a little pricier than the kits you are looking at, but they're pretty much plug and play, and the performance is amazing throughout the speed range because of the adaptive microstepping. Gecko's support is also second to none. Keling sells a kit based on the G540 off of their website. I do to, but I'm out of stock after Black Friday...kicking myself for not building more motors during my last production run . Good luck with your search!

I went and read that link you posted and then went to your website and searched around. From looking around a little bit it seams that the gecko drive unipolar systems are still in the same ballpark of price.

What would it cost for a complete plug and play system from you?

Thanks , I did see that one. It seems what Im looking for is pretty much in that price range. Thats good news for me , thats what I was hopeing for.
