    Slowing a spindle down

Does anyone have a suggestion for how to stop an HSD spindle in a few seconds?

You should be able to stop it with settings in the VFD. I can't tell you how, but I know our 10HP HSD's stop very quickly. To stop really fast, you may need to add a braking resistor.

Typically you would change the decceleration time parameter in your vfd. If the back EMF it generates is too large, you'll need a braking resistor to dissipate the extra power. The specifics of how to do both those things depend on the type of vfd you have.
