4th Axis Control and other questions

Hey Guys,

new here and gathering materials and info to build a double spindle CNC for my shop. I plan on having the ability to put a 4th axis rotary on the bed.

Ive built alot of machines over the years (non CNC) so Im still on a learning curve with the technology. I hope to document the build of my machine on this forum. It will be fabricated on a steel cutting laser.

I have a few questions maybe some of you can help with.

1. can someone direct me to a data base of downloadable CNC building info...?

2. I want to integrate a 4th axis - do I need to go ahead a purchase a 4 axis motor set and 4 axis driver and power supply? The rotary usually already has a servo or stepper, so Id end up with a spare stepper if I bought a four motor kit...thats ok with me having a backup motor.

3. Theres plenty of three / four axis motor kits out there that include the power supply and driver boards....I am going to be carving wood. I need minimally 600+ oz in steppers. Can you recommend any reasonably priced, quality, kit suppliers that youve had good results with?

you should buy a 4 axis controller with 3 motors,the new gecko 4 axis controller is what i recommend,deep groove sells it complete with 3 motors and power supply ready to run plug and play for about $595,i think thats 48 volts which will give you more top speed

There are no 4 axis boards that'll drive 600 oz motors. Ideally you'd probably need Gecko G203's.

theres no 4 axis single units to drive motors that big,you will need 4 single gecko 201 or 203 like gerry said,and i would use a torrid supply,deep groove is a company which makes up controlers and sells small desktop machines
