I heard that the tap used to cut an acme screw is expensive. Have you looked at the ballscrews from McMaster-Carr? They're not that costly.
Does anyone have good design for 3/4" x 6 Amce Anti-Backlash Nuts.

You have several choices. First is an all plastic nut. Backlash is extremely minimal with a plastic nut exceeding 10 threads of length, but if you want to go one step further, you can also bind the nut slightly to increase the preload.
Here's the design I used. I've seen it mentioned repeatedly on this site, and others, and it works great. This is an old picture -- I don't have useful data from this machine, since I'm in the process of building 2 others. You can see how the nut is very nearly split into 2 parts, and the "adjustment screw" is able to bind the two halves against each other. A simple design, and quite effective.
