    Limit switches...what do I need?

    Hi Group

I have the x axis of my cnc wood router complete. I `m hoping
someone would be kind enough to give me some direction as
to the requirements for the limit switches needed on such a machine.
I`ll take a guess and say I need two limits per axis. Do the limits
also act as homing switches or do I need say a proximity switch for
the homing function of each axis. I`m using gecko drives and Bob`s
    breakout board.

    Thanks Barry

    Barry,
The limit switches can either be done with 1 or 2 switches per axis. I use only one, which reads 2 flags, or you can use two and have them read 1 or 2 flags. I always try to use as little in the way of sensors as I can. Home is a different matter. You can use, but not recommended using your travel limits as a home switch. I use slotted switches or sensitive prox for home location. In most applications, home is not near (with the exception of the z axis) the end of travel. Switchs are cheap, easy to install and can be used in a configuraton to suit. Which ever one you decide on, order an extra one or two and keep as a spare. Hope this helps.
    Regards,
    Glen
