What kind of metal? I bought my T-slots in a one time deal from a guy who sold his extras. I buy aluminum plates cut to size off of Ebay. Try Ebay section - Scrap Metal. Sometimes you can find "cut to size" there. A friend of mine goes to junk yards that specialize in scrap metal, but I have nothing like that around me. For small pieces you can try a hardware store (Thin 1" or 2" square steal rods and tubes, 4" wide steal plates about 4' long, etc...) And then there is the retail route. Most cities have a company that will sell you 1/2" aluminum plate, but it will cost you bucks unless they let you have seconds which you should always ask about.

Not the cheapest, but convenient if there is one near you.

I use Enco! They have plenty of the 6061 which I use mostly. They have offers most months with free shipping if you spend 50 bucks or more. You cant beat the free shipping. I have a metal supplyer a few towns away that is a good second choice. But, like I said, I buy 6061-t6 at 6' lengths for a very reasonable price. I find Ebay is ok, but I like getting new stuff and not having to pay the shipping charges that kill ya.
    Good Luck,
    Glen

DEFINITELY explore your local yellow pages.

I found a place in town that has cutoff "remnants" from machine shops. They sell that for $1/lb !! Every concievable size

Maybe they would mail it, dunno. Its called HiTemp Metals, and its in Tucson.

If you're in need of a particular size try these people out.

I just bought $200 worth of 6061 plate and I'm very happy with the quality of everything. Cuts were free and the shipping was fair

I buy all my metal from "Metal Supermarket". At my work we buy most of our metals from them since they keep a good supply of off-cuts on their shelves which they usually sell by the pound, so you can get some good prices in most cases. They also have the ability to cut or shear the material to size for you. Of course there is a fee for this service. It doesn't hurt that they are a couple blocks away from the my work too.
The owner gives me a better price on materials if they know it is for my own use rather then for my work.
