Y axis rails sharing the load?

When building the Y axis, how can I help to insure that the rails will share the load, rather than one rail carrying the load while the other just loafs along?

    place them horizontally?

That's what I did. The key consideration is the required Z axis clearance however if you build a longer x axis and have the y rails slightly further apart, then z axis clearance needs can be designed in.

I believe horizontal Y axis is better than vertical but many would disagree.

Am away for 2 wks so can't respond.

Andy, your right. But most DIY router tables have vertical rails, as does mine. I can see where anything less than perfect alignment will cause the Z to be carried by one rail. I guess this isn't a problem as long as the 1 rail is strong enough to support the load.
