has anyone rebuilt or take apart a ballscrew nut
hi markus,
I have purchased very specific sized balls from http://www.precisionballs.com/
They also have a great article on rebuilding a ballscrews here: http://www.precisionballs.com/Ball_Screw_Repair.html
Best Regards,
Andy
what size and type of balls did u get and how many balls for the price? di you get... let us know how you made out changing them
Hi markus_detroy,
I replaced the balls in works cnc machine. Basicly preloaded them.
Too much play in the kit when we bought it.
I bought 3 sets of each size above what size the ones were in the nut.
I ended up using the largest set and it still wasn't enough.
If it is and old nut then probably get the next size up and maybe one after that to be sure. They are cheap enough.
Click on a size from the link below and it will show all the different sizes around that size.
The trick I used for putting them in was first count how many balls came out.
Use that amount of the new to put back in. Maybe one less.
Screw the nut onto the middle of the screw. Make sure it has a bit of oil on it.
Drop the balls in only one of the filler holes. Rotate the nut slightly when no more could go in until you can add more.
I also used a small bit of plastic to push them together after every 5 or so balls. Keep going until they come out the other end.
You should only have enough then to fit a few in the filler tube.
Use grease to hold them in. while you pop it back in.
If you have too many when they start coming back out. keep putting them back in and push them up to each other very 5 or so balls.
Well thats how I did it anyway.
Oh man I just wasted my time writting this.
They explain it here.

hi markus,
I was repairing a linear bearing, and not a ballscrew. So I can't advise on what size to get.
At http://www.precisionballs.com/Ball_Screw_Repair.html they have suggestions on what to do size wise when oversizing the balls.
Have them send you an assortment of ball sizes, just a couple of balls in each size so you can test fit.
Over at www.industrialhobbies.com they have ballscrew disassembly / reassembly instructions for a single ballnut, have a look.
