Need a better Z-axis

Hi -

I am wanting a better Z-axis. All I need is approx 5.5 - 6 inches of travel. Currently using plastic bushings instead of bearings. Not sure what would be an inexpensive solution for bearings.

Any links and advice would be appreciated.
