    Acme thread in OZ?

I'm having a hard time getting some acme thread and nuts in Australia.

Ive found some well priced ones on use-enco but they want to charge me $400p+h for a $50 total cost!

Does any one know where to get any? it doesnt have to be to size I can cut it, the logest lenght I need is 700mm
    and pref. 1/2" 10?

    thanks

    Stupid reply #1

I used to use Keables.. in Mellabourne.

Umm option #2.. Pay a nice and very clever TOOL MAKER to machine up a bar from stock...

You may of course go for varying alloys and accuracy...

Or approach a place that repairs CNC equipment if you want to use ballscrews...

I have actually found acme threaded bar stock pretty easy to come by..

It's very sexy, and very good, but it usually costs and I don't have a use for it.

Do a search for ACME on the "Australian and New Zealand Clubhouse" section.

I remember there was mention of a place in Melbourne that made it.

    Smile

I recently bought Acme lead screws and nuts from Hare & Forbes in Sydney.
They are parts for the X3 Mill.
Depends what sizes you need .
The Y Axis lead screw is about 650mm long.
They were about $90 for the screw and about $110 for the brass adjustable nut. 2mm pitch.
Not Cheap but fitted my table without any mods.

there is a Hare & Forbes in Melb too.. might pay them a visit..
the longest size i need is 700 but if 650 is all i can get then may have to shorten it..

There is a small engineer shop in Northern Suburbs Melbourne who cut their own acme.

    Prices are $14.87 + GST / foot (1/2 * 8) and (5/8 * 8) with nuts at $13.96 and $13.30
    or $16.00 + GST / foot for (1/2 * 6) or (5/8 * 6) with nuts at $14.70 for either.

    Contact point is Matt - 03 9354 2588.

If you specific need (ends turned eg) send picture to fax on 03 9354 6760

I went there about a year ago. Great place ... really helpful ...

Now that's a blast from the past. They were one of my clients in the 80's as the company I worked for developed, supplied and maintained their IT system. A very grubby place to work, which was a major contrast to the bulk of our other clients which were hospitals.
