    Where to purchase aluminum...?

Not sure where I should post this thread, my applogies if it is in the wrong spot. now that I have the disclaimer out of the way...

    I am looking for 3 inch H-beam or I-beam in 6061 aluminum.

The two parallel pieces need to be 1/4 inch thick, and 3 inches wide. The thickenss needs to be a uniform 1/4 inch thick across. (some have the edges thinner, with the center being thicker at the connection)

The perpindicular piece also needs to be 1/4 inch thick, and at least 3 inches wide. It can be wider, but at least 3 inches.

Preferably as close to zip 82401 as possible. Denver, SLC, Billings, Boise, etc are all okay distances.

I am open to suggestions for suppliers, and ideas on how to search for suppliers myself.

    Thank you for your help.

    -Jim

If you need any more than only a foot or two definately check the yellow pages. I get mine from a place called State Steal. They only sale in full length/size sections but at a per unit price much less than online dealers. They even are willing to search and bring in stock they normally do not carry and I am in no way a big buyer. You should be able to find a similar distributor in Denver easily. As if the online prices are not bad enough the shipping wait till you see the shipping costs...

I've used these guys before. I tried searching for your dimensions but I didn't quite find one that exactly matched.

eBay has a ton of hobby metal sellers that carry all sorts of interesting pieces. You might have luck there. The prices for stainless on ebay are VERY good. One seller in particular sells it by the pound at less then I can get it locally. As long as you order enough to cover the shipping (flat-rate boxes) then you are good to go.

For smaller quantities (ie...less than 6'), I get stuff from Shapiro Supply. I think thier web address is www.shapirosupply.com. If you can't find what you're looking for on thier site, give them a call.
