New machine problem !! many questionsss

Hi Guys , I've just finished my JGRO machine and now need a bit of help !!!!

First I'll start with my setup : Hobbycnc board (not the new one) , the 3 stepper are 272 oz , all motor and switches wiring are shielded twisted cables !! all electronic is mounted on an aluminium plate connected to earth ground , all 1 end of cables connected to earth on the plate !!! Power supply is 30 vdc !!!

    Dell computer setup with win2k and Mach3 .. Stepper are at 1/4 step , X an Z scew are 1/4-20 and Y 5/16-18

    Now the questions

    1) What can i do to filter the switches?? none are usable they all flicker as soon as there is power to the stepper (not even a spindle yet )..

    2) Can I achieve faster than 30 IPM with this setup ??? up to now if i try higher , I either loose steps or Steppers jam with a zzzzzzzzzz sound !!

Other than the switches and a top speed of 30 IPM everything ik ok !!

    Thanks

    Bruno

Tracking down the interference can be quite difficult. Try running the wires away from the stepper wires.

You can increase the input debounce in either config>logic or state. try 2000 and gradually increase. If it's too high, you'll get a delay when the switch trips, but it should get them working.

with 1/4-20, you'll have a hard time going faster than 30ipm. You need to switch to 1/2-10 or something for more speed.

Hi Gerry , i did try up to 10000 , it helped but still glitches !!!! , running the cable away is not easy with gantry machine !!!!

For the speed you're right, my stepper are already at 600 RPM for 30 ipm so next step would be 10 or 6 tpi leadscrew !!!

Some improvement !!!!!!!!!!!!! , by disconnecting from the ground all the shield from motor cables noise went down a lot !!! (checked with my scope) !!! but still with a debounce of 5000, on a run of 10 minutes, i get a limit switch trigger !!!!!

Do the wires for the switches run in the same cable as the motor power wires? I couldn't tell from your initial description. If they do then you'll never get it to work properly as the current in the motor power wires will magnetically induce a current in the switch wires, causing false triggers. I ran separate cables for motor and switches but didn't find the need to shield them as there was no cross talk.

If you're already running separate cables then nevermind.

Yes all wiring is in a bundle coming from the gantry , I guess i will have to find a way to have 2 separate bundle !!! I thought that most machines had only 1 harness !!!
