Need help stepper motors wont turn!!!

I purchased a longs motor cnc kit off of ebay but cant seem to get the motors to turn. I hear a steady hum from the motors and then even a knocking sound ounce in a while. I have Mach3 installed and all components are hooked up correctly.

Check the ports/ pins setup in MACH3. Maybe reverse the Step/dir numbers.

Are you jogging the steppers with Mach3? Using the up/down/left/right/pageup/pagedown buttons on your keyboard?

If your inputs and outputs are set properly in Mach3 (i.e. they match the instructions the board seller gave you), and if the dip switches on the board also match what the board seller recommends in their paperwork, I'll bet that they knock you hear is the first step...and the motor is waiting for input to make the next step(s)...from the keyboard.

I have tried jogging the steppers but nothing happens. Nothing happens if I enter manually G-code into the input. When I enter G-code manually mach3 will display that the motor has moved but in real life nothing has happened, I have checked the parallel port and it reads 5volts on the input pins out of the computer. All the leds are green on each driver and the breakout board led is green also. All the motors have power to them around 16 volts and all the signal pins on the breakout board 2-7 read 5 volts. I will try Switching the dir and pul pins in mach3 and will report back.

Another thing to mention is that on the signal pins the voltage never changes when I enter g-code it stays at a constant 5 volts.

Sorry if this seems obvious, but since I can't see what you have going on...are you sure the 24/36V power supply is connected to the board and powered properly? I guess it must be if you are seeing 16V at the motors, but...wait - if you have power at the motors and it's not moving, it seems like it just isnt receiving step commands. Which brings us back to the pins & configuration in Mach3.

So, now let me ask - the board/drivers you are using, did it come with a set of instructions and screen shots showing how to do the configuration setup the pins in Mach3?

You won't be able to see the individual signals with a multimeter. You would need an oscilloscope.

If you're using 6 or 8 lead motors make sure they're wired correctly.

Not all parallel port cables have all pins on one end wired to the same pin on the other end. Check your cable for this with an ohmeter.

Don't trust a cable that came with a package. I have found one that was not wired as the package label indicated.

I checked with a ohm meter and the cable checked out clean.

Are the steppers locked upon powering up the board and Mach3? Do they turn freely if there is no power applied to either device? Have you assigned the hotkeys within Mach3?
