    Machining Delrin

I want to make some bearing blocks and a leadscrew nut

I've bought a block of delrin, but just thought I check to see what the recommended feeds speeds depths and bits to use

    before I go experimenting
    Thanks

I've never cut delrin but I've cut high quality HDPE. As others have stated it cuts like buter.

Using a 0.25" 2 flute upward spiral bit at ~10000rpm I cut at 50ipm taking 0.125" per pass with excellent results. I'm sure I can cut faster.

Wouldn't HDPE be a more suitable material to cut bearing blocks with? About 1/4 of the price of delrin with good tensile strength. Easily can handle the work of bring a bearing block even in lower grades.

I already got me a block of Delrin to play with, It seems to be the material of choice for machining type things. I will see what else I can use it for too !

I think it's called spam, and I don't mean the product from Hormel.

delrin does stink a bit as it is being machined. It contains formaldehyde. But it machines like a dream.
