PreciseBits is supposed to be coming out with some 3/16" collets.

But generally, for most routers you'll only be able to get 1/4" and 1/2" collets, and 1/8" if you go with PreciseBits.
One reason that a lot of those Onsrud bits are so cheap is because you can't use them in a router. Buyer beware. :-)

Router Shank Reduction Bushings - Toolstoday.com - Industrial Quality Carbide Tipped Router Bits

    Amana doesn't have a 4mm ID bushing. I believe you can get a 3/16" collet for RotoZip's.

SDP/SI does sell bore reducers that might work, for 1/4" OD and 4mm ID, though I don't know the runout on them....

Onsrud has engraving V-bits for about $20, not sure how much the Whiteside ones cost. I tried some inexpensive Ryobi V-bits, but they did not come to a perfect point. I use Amana's insert 90 degree V-bit, and though it's about $80, the inserts are about $17-18 each, and they're reversible and sharpenable.

    Noob question

Are Ball nose and core box the same? If not what is the difference in the bits and their uses?

Yes and No. Ballnose usually refers to a spiral fluted bit, and a core box is usually a 2 flute carbide tipped bit.

Both will make the same cuts, though. Depending on the application, one type may be preferable.
Core box bits are usually cheaper, but you can get 1/8" shank ballnose bits very cheap on Ebay.

Thanks Gerry. Which do you prefer when doing a finishing path?
