have you used output 2 before ?
is the relay an electromechanical one or a solid state electronic ?
on some motherboards pin 1's output is weaker than the other outputs
and may not be switching the FET transistor correctly
to switch something on
one FET controlled by the signal on LPT pin 17 grounds o/p1 (terminal 5)
to GND (terminal 12)
the second FET controlled by LPT pin 1 grounds output 2 (terminal 6)
to GND (terminal 12)
when they are switched on I'd expect the voltage between the output and ground about 0.5V
think of a single pole switch between terminal 5 and terminal 12
and another switch between terminal 6 and terminal 12
when the output is switched off you should measure 48V
between terminal 12 and the output terminal (5 or 6)
I'm assumining you are using a digital multimeter and the relay coil is a few hundred ohms
