I just wanted to thank the members of this commuinty for answing my questions about CNC by just keeping the forum active. I have just finished my first CNC router build and could always count on something here to help me out by just searching and lurking. Recently a contest on Instructables included a Shopbot PRSstandard 9648 router as the grand prize. I could not pass up the opotunity to win this machine, so I set out to disign, build and do a full write up on instrutables. Instrucables is website where people post step by step instructions for how to build/make/do anything. Its a great site with many active users and some great projects.
So here it is, my entrie into the instructables competition, DIY CNC Router I have included drawings for every part, a complete parts list with costs, a lists of the tools I used to build the machine, wiring diagram and assembly instructions.
Some basic specs for the machine:
Travel: 24" x 12" x 6"
Round linear rail and bearings
Precision 1/2-10 5 start AMCE screws and dumpstercnc anti-backlash nuts
Rectangular steel tube and aluminum plate construction
Gecko G540 with Gecko 280oz-in steppers
Mach3
I know these parts are fairly standard for most machines like this but I think I've got a pretty reliable setup.
The instructables contest just ended and the winner will be chosen in the coming weeks. Hopefully I'll be making space for a Shopbot soon!
