Mcmaster-carr sells ACME threaded rods. They were about $25 for a 3 foot section IIRC.
reputable place to purchase lead screws from?
- need 36" and 48" 1/2 - 10 TPI single start
- pre-ground ends to fit 1/2" bearing blocks that would be even better!

You can cut the acme with a hacksaw or a disc grinder and file the ends smooth, practice on some cheap bolts if your worried about messing them up, nook or roton offer turned ends, forget which one, if you want to pay for them, i didnt feel a need for it.
hmmm seems cnczone adds links to some keywords automagically now?!? I didnt add the link for barnesandnobles
thanks- I like the clean look of a ground screw going through the bearing block, there are a few added benefits;
-only require one coupler to attach lead screw to motor shaft (less $$)
-better screw alignment
I imagine I won't have to grind down a 1/2 lead screw that much to make it fit with the bearing blocks I bought from cncrounterparts dot com.
Thanks!
My leadscrews fit into the CNCRouterParts.com bearig blocks with no modification at all. I understand that some acme leadscrews need some light sanding to fit into the bearing blocks. I don't think you'll need to do any grinding to get a good fit. I did grind the ends flat but that was only for cosmetic reasons.
