Hello
I have a question about CNC table design. Some have a moveable table.
Others move the gantry. On the open source drawer slide design it seems to be headed toward a moving table. Why move the table rather than the gantry? Is there an advantage I am missing?
Thanks
Kev

I think using drawer slides would be much more difficult on a moving gantry machine. Drawer slides are just not that strong, imo. They would work much better on the moving table design.Originally Posted by Kev
As was mentioned, a moving table can take up a lot more space, and the gantry will usually be more rigid. But there's no reason that one couldn't build a moving gantry machine just as rigid as a moving table. You just have to go about it a bit differently.

Thanks guys for the replies
Peu, you have an interesting build thread.
This is my first machine and will be very light duty. Maybe drawer slides will be adequate?
