    Prepping CRS for paint...

What should I use to prep ColledRolledSteel for paint?

Can I simply use lacquer thinner or the like to clean of the dirt and grime before paint?

    Thanks.

I just wipe it down thoroughly with acetone, lacquer thinner, or Prep-Sol. Usually acetone. Any part of the steel that will remain unpainted will get two or three coats of carnuba wax with buffing between coats with a soft cloth. This retards rust in cold damp weather.

Since this CRS will be for the X,Y, and Z axis do you polish the edges after you paint, I assume yes?

    Thanks,

Yes, wax and buff after the paint has hardened enough. 1" wide masking tape centered on the 1/4" edges will overlap the sides enough paint free area for the bearing carriages from CNCrouterparts to roll without interference from the paint thickness. The waxed bare metal stops rust and adds no significant thickness so the bearings still roll on essentially bare metal. You can re-wax it as a 6 or 8 month maintenance item if you wish to.
