Motor Cable, What are you guys using?

Im running Probotix ProboStep drivers with their Green Monster motors right now and running them about about 2.8 amps. I am currently running with db9 serial cables but Im seeing the negative effects of using such small cables. What are you guys with bigger machines running for motor cable?

I'm running a Bridgeport with a 7 amp power supply. Still running the original 14 gauge cables installed by Bridgeport, but the gurus tell me that 18 gauge would be more than sufficient.

But the question is not so much the connector you're using, but what wire size between connectors.

Most recommendations I've seen say 20awg is fine. I was using 18awg until I got some high-flex shielded 20awg cables from SkyCraft Aviation. CarveOne

Im running 24awg right now. They were just for testing at the beginning, but It just kept getting pushed aside. I guess Im really asking where to get cable. I cant find the stuff locally anywhere.

Automotive hook-up wire from AutoZone, Carquest, Advance Auto, etc. will work even though it isn't shielded. Just twist four wire colors together in a loose twist of one or two turns per inch so they stay together. I clamp one end of the four wires in a vise and put the other end in a drill. Slowly twist them evenly so that they stay parallel to each other. My big machine had a 19' twisted wire run that had no problems. It is now wired with shielded cable.

Not sure what gauge it is, but IIRC, my local trailer supply has a four color ribbon cable made for hooking up trailer lights.

Stranded wire used to wire up alarms systems. You can get in 4 or 8 conductor 18 gauge on up. HomeDepot has it if your in the US.
