How the heck do you program a Huanyang VFD?

I just received a 2kW Huanyang VFD to control my spindle. I've found plenty of pages on what settings should be used but for the life of me, I can't figure out how to change the settings of anything on this damn thing.

The keypad doesn't match the one in the manual (which seems pretty common) and the directions in the manual don't match the keys one page earlier.

When powered up, the display flashes 52.xx or something like that and I can change stuff to the right of the decimal with the up arrow keys (down key does nothing).

By pressing PGM, I get the display to change to PD000 and the up arrow increments the value but the down arrow doesn't decrement it. Pressing PGM again takes me back to the flashing frequency display.

None of the other buttons seem to do anything.

    Help Please!!!!

Sounds like you got a bum VFD. Better see if you can send it back and get a new one. Mine programs just fine with none of those problems.

    Chris,

Thanks for the response. Any chance you might post the exact key sequence to change a PD value or two? Just to make sure it's not some idiocy on my part.

p.s. - on a complete side note: Are you in the Glen Spey in New York? I'm actually in Michigan but I used to make an annual trek there every summer as a youth to a Ukrainian festival not far from there.

I do live here in little Glen Spey! Just literally down the road from the old Ukrainian resorts. One is still doing OK as a B&B & convention center the other, sad to say, was bought by Hassidics and is being slowly destroyed by neglect. It's nice to see someone know the town instead of calling me Glen! :^)

As to the VFD issue, all I do is:
    1 hit the prog button,
2 use the up and down arrows or the shift button to change the blinking digit for selecting the right pid #
3 press set to change the values for the pid
4 change the value by using the up and down arrows or the shift button to change the blinking digit
5 press set to save the modified value

Ya, looks like the keypad is broken or something. Seems like the bottom row of buttons doesn't work.....dang.

Had some really good times out there at the resorts - even met my wife there. We used to roll in to Glen Spey Saturday morning after a long Friday night just so we could hang out in the ice cold supermarket and nurse our big heads back to some reasonable health...good times, hope we didn't wreck your town!!

One more question for y'all, I'm probably going to do what I should have done in the first place which is to buy a more reputable VFD. This one was free to me (well, cost of shipping) so it's not that big a loss and I really have no recourse with the manufacturer.

This is kind of a dumb question but, I have a 2kW spindle and the closest Hitachi I could find is this one: http://www.driveswarehouse.com/Drive...600048fffec28b

I'm assuming there's no risk in hooking up a 2kW spindle to a 2.2kW inverter no?

Yup, that will work. Your spidle is probably rated at 2.2kw but you can limit the current output with the vfd to meet your spec.
