Need Help from Genius in Building XYZ plate (images Included)

Hi, I'm building a 3D Rig siilar to this one:

My is smaller and simpler, I found a problem in the proper Fine XYZ aliment of the two cameras (to make this thing work properly)

a company have a solution but is too expensive for me:

I did a drawing of what I have in mind (some sort of aluminum plates with bolts and springs):

but need some pieces to make it work for example the aluminum plates, springs and this:

I really appreciate if someone point of a better Design where to buy the pieces or if someone know of a company that sell something similar, Thanks

BTW: I had done theads in aluminum by hand in the past doing a drill hole and then use a thread tool, is this OK to make them this way?

I think you are going to have to be more specific. Is this to move a camera along XYZ axes? How much travel is needed?

Three bolts on a spring plate will work for small motions, but of course the axes are not orthogonal. This is mostly for aligning then locking down the moving plate, as opposed to any scanning or controlled motion.

    Have I understood your application?

Hi, Thanks for you reply, it only need to travel a few mm around 7mm each bolt, this is only for micro calibration,

This is where the plate will be:

This is the camera off and the Camera Plate for easy remove.

I am sorry, but in my ignorance I still do not know what you are building, so I can't say what will (or won't) work.

If the goal is to position/orient a small camera, and if there are no forces trying to shake it or change its position/orientation, then a simple set of plates with 1/4"-20 adjustment and lock-down screws would be more than enough. Anything more complicated would require more understanding of what your project is all about.

Check out 'kinematic mounts' on the web or from optics manufacturers like NewPort, ThorLabs, or Edmund Optics. The ideas are pretty simple and easy to replicate unless you require high accuracy.

    Cheers!

    Andy,
Thanks for reposting a picture of my Z limit switch bracket in your first post. I used my mill but you could use a drill press to drill the hole. I used a hand tap to tap the hole. When I am tapping a hole when using my mill I use a tap handle that you attach to the spindle to ensure alignment but tap by hand.

    camera plate latch

    hey guys,

    nice looking project.

i've been looking for similar designs (not pre-made), similar to what you're talking about.

any ideas about how to design the part i circled in blue from scratch? I've made some dovetailed camera plates, but looking on how to make the latch design for tightening them to the plate, something more elegant that just having a fastener bolt put pressure on the dovetail.

    thx

Draw a circle and offset the center hole by a small amount ie.. For a 1.5" diameter cycle offset the hole by about .125" that will give you the offset cam action your looking for.

    To the original poster,
I think if you do a search on ebay for "xyz stage" you will find some different examples of the kind of thing you are after, there is a wide variety in size, accuracy and cost.

you should be able to find something that suits your needs, otherwise if you really need to build something yourself you can also buy just the screw mechanism from micrometer drives which you could use to give you accurate and fine control, more accurate than just bolts.

    rgds,

    Andrew
