    Question about Vacuum Hoses

I am going to order this hose in the next day or so...

I am currently in the process of designing and building a vacuum system for my CNC router.. I have today and tomorrow off and I want to work on it.. But I wont have it in hand to do so..

I have a genie shop vac (bought from HD many years ago) with what I always called a 2" hose.. But seeing now as there is a 2" and a 2.5" size available, I'm confused as to which is which.. Is this the ID of the fittings, or the OD of the hose corrugation? Is it the ID of the hose itself? The hose I have is 2" ID and 2.5" OD to the outside of the corrugated ribs...

Can't seem to find any info on this... Basically, I need to make a hole in the mounting system for the hose to slide through.. Not talking about where it attaches to the dust boot, but up on the gantry system where the hose can be loosely held in place to keep it vertical on it's way to the shoe as the Y>Z carriage moves back and forth..

Can anybody shed some light on all of this?

Basically, what I'm asking is if there is a difference between what some sites call a 2" hose, and what others call a 2 1/2" hose?... If I use the existing hose on my shop vac to figure the size of the openings, will the one I'm ordering from WoodCraft be the same?

I'm guessing that they are not the same.

So how do I tell which I have? The OD is 2 1/2".. The ID is 2".. and google is not producing any info for me.. just keeps pointing me to products.. without any details on what the dimension refers to..

If anyone out there has 2 1/2" hose, especially the clear hose like on the link I provided, I'd really appreciate if you could measure the ID and OD of the hose...

I'd hate to waste a bunch of time and effort and material just to find out I guessed wrong...

Of course there's no 'model number' anywhere on this thing.. and when I enter 5.0 Peak Horse power 16 wet dry shop vac into google, it comes back with 6.5 peak horsepower results.. Which are obviously an upgraded newer version.. and there's no way to know if the newer ones use the same size hose...

    Ack!

My recollection is that on vacuums, the hose diameter is the OD where you connect accessories. Definitely NOT over the ribbed sections. Hoped that helped. If not, why not take a scale to HD with you, look for a 2 1/2 shop vac hose and measure it to see which diameter they are talking about?

It's not HD I'm buying the hose from.. It's WoodCraft via on line.. The nearest store is about 230 miles away...

I have the one I bought at HD here at home..

    Gents,

I have a Shop Vac #905-03 8' Lock-On hose kit and the fittings that mount over the ribbed hose are 2-1/2" inside diameter.

The inner diameter of the ribbed hose is 2".

The outer diameter of the ribbed hose is about 2-13/32" (2.4").

The fitting that plugs into the Shop Vac is 2-3/16" outer diameter and 2" inner diameter.

The fitting that is the pick-up end is 2-1/4" outer diameter and 2" inner diameter.

hoses are measured by their ID, so if your hoses ID is 2" then the hose is 2". That 2.5" hose will not fit your 2" connectors on your shopvac.

Is there perhaps a pay phone close by that you could use to talk to a knowledgeable sales associate at the retail outlet. This would save you a 230 mile drive only to find out it does not fit.

I truly hope that these suggestions were helpful.

My Shop Vac #905-03 hode kit calls it a 2-1/2" hose kit on the box. The hose has an inner diameter of 2".

Wow! You went to all of the trouble of creating an anonymous user account just for 'that?'
