    Ballscrew Selection

My Xzero Raptor is now complete and ready to ship except for one decision I have to make - which ballscrew. My options for the X axis are 2525 or 2510.

If my understanding is correct, the 2525 is more travel per rev which would give me faster rapids at the cost of resolution and power correct?

My machine is the 24x36 and I'm thinking that the 2510's would be the better choice for me (running 380oz" steppers) but I'm very open to recommendations so please, let me know what you think.

The sooner I make a decision, the sooner it ships!

I think it depends... You have to look at the torque/speed chart for the stepper. You may think that with 2510 you'll have increased torque but it may not be so, since your motor will now spin 2.5 times faster to reach the same speed as a 2525 screw, and the torque of the stepper drops as speed increases. You'd have to calculate how much force you'll need to cut what you want to cut at the feedrate and depth you want, and work back from there. There's formulas on the Geckodrive website. The machine should move smoother with the 2510 however...

I think 2510 would be the best of both worlds. I run 1610's on my 24x24" machine with the g540 and 380oz/in motors. I can route wood at over 300 ipm and rapids of over 500ipm! I actually run it much slower most of the time.

    Any recommended sources?

I'm rapidly approaching the need to buy some ball screws for my build. Does anyone have any suggestions for sources?

I've been looking at Roton and am planning to use two nuts per screw to eliminate backlash (or at least reduce it).

    Thanks.
    Rick

I get my ballscrews from eBay seller linearmotionbearings. They have been reliable and the quality is good. I get a better price when dealing with them direct and paying with paypal. I also have them do the end machining as well they will machine to your specs.

Just ask for what you want and they will send you a quote.
