Do you have a DC power supply that is within that range(10-30VDC)?
Also is your 540 wired up and not in fault state?

I have these switches and need some help on how to wire these up to a G540. They are rated at 10-30 vdc. I have six of them and would like to use them for my home and limits. I appreciate any help. I am not totally stupid, just partially! Thanks

Is a G540 a negative switching I/O ? Those are NPN switch, negative-positive-negative, which will give you a negative output from the switch.
if you have your 540 not in fault and have a power supply in the right range..
then the brown wires can all be connected to the positive DC V supply(+V)..
the blue can be connected to the Negative of the DC V supply(-V)
And the black wires are the ones that can be connected to the 540's inputs ..
ie 1 to 4 on the main terminal strip...
each one is an input..
you can tie two or more into each input and if any one of them trigger so does that input..
then in mach3 you tell the software what inputs to use and if you want mach to use one input to read home and a limit...(it can do both as it will then disable the limit sensing while moving to the home position and yes you can set a limit and home as the same channel in mach3)..
I would try one first and set that channel up in mach and watch to make sure it triggers on the screen(and the led lights up on the probe too) then you can decide if you want them ganged or not..(you only have four inputs so you have to gang a few)
as an example for a three axis machine you can use three probes and tie one into the first input one into the second input then one into the third input...
then use the probes on the moving section and have them pass by stationary metal triggers(is metal bars or angles) that will trigger the probe at each extreme..
then in mach three use channel 1 as a plus and minus limit
and also use channel 1 as a home(make sure you get your direction of homing the right way or it will move back wards to the wrong end to find the switch!)
Same for inputs two and three...
there are many other combination's too..
that's just an example of one way..
that will leave you one input(ie input 4)
for a zero probe!
I don't have anything wired up at the moment, it will be a couple of weeks. Just trying to get everything in place in my head so it will be a smooth install of the electronics. I have a box full of power supply's I am sure I have one in the correct range. So does the G540 pickup on a ground for the inputs or a positive, I guess it doesn't matter about the voltage does it? I thought I had read somewhere about 5 volts, but I think that was related to the SuperPID. Its so hard to soak up any information with the kids running around and the wife telling me to go do this and then go do that.....Thanks Restless!
Take it slow one thing at a time:
First before anything you will have to get the 540 powered up and the estop wired up on a test setup then setup mach3 so the g540 is out of fault mode..(with your parallel port hooked up and your charge pump setting in mach3 correct)
trust me setting up mach3 may be more difficult than the wiring..
as soon as you have mach3 configure and its not in e-fault then move to the rest of the wiring.. there are settings in mach general con-fig that will keep you from even getting out of fault so before you move to switches...get the g540 running first...
so this is my best advice...
come back when you can hook up power and parallel port to the g540 and can wire in at least the e-stop..then when you cannot get out of fault come back and we can help with the mach 3 settings...
the wiring does not even have to be permanent this is only to get your software settings up first...
that's how i did it,,
I am going to start wiring up my control box this weekend, and finish my build to make sure everything is in the right place. Then tear everything apart and get it painted. I know I am getting close to the PIA part just don't want it to be a really big PIA! Thanks again Restless!

I got everything hooked up and working finally just need some help with the settings in Mach. I used one switch for each axis with adjustable triggers. I wired the switches to a separate 12v power supply like you suggested. Brown to 12+, Blue to 12-, and each of the blacks go to my Gecko inputs. I have my X on input 1, Y on input 2, and Z on input 3. What do my settings in mach need to be to get everything working properly?
