I use a lot of Festool gear in my wood working and had been thinking of using one of their routers for a wood cutting spindle on my first DIY CNC. I have the newer version of their largest router, the 2200, but there are deals to be had on the older unit that it replaces, the 2000 (about $345 as a closeout).
The unit was made by someone other than Festool, whose name escapes me, but it is a hoss of a router nonetheless. The main attraction, other than price and guarantee, was the bearing arrangement on the arbor.
I'm now looking more toward a higher h.p. spindle but thought that it might prove to be a worthwhile hack for someone considering a similarly powered Porter Cable or Bosch set up.
If you can't fix it with a hammer it's electrical.
