Lightbulb Looking to build a CNC machine - im a noob

alright, im charlieiscool12 from the 405th infantry division. Im looking into building a cnc machine so that i can build costume armor second to none. Visit the 405th website for more info about our current methods.
the cnc machine i need is going to need to be about 20 inches by 20 inches long and wide. and about 5 inches tall. (these are rough sizes... if its WAY too big, im willing to downsize)
im looking to keep this build as cheap as i can. i have a budget in mind with this thing, but i can probably go over it quite a bit. I have tons of 1/2in wood laying around in my garage for this build so id rather build this thing out of wood than metal.
if you guys can lead me to any guides or give me an idea of how much this would cost me, it would be much appreciated.
    thanks

Spend a few weeks here reading.
Bare minimum is usually around $1000, but people have built machines for less. There are a lot of ways to build a machine, and a lot of different price ranges.
