I don't think it's crazy. It would be a nice accessory. That much of an opening in the fence bothers me from a safety standpoint though.

Hey guys - just wanted to share my idea and get some feedback (other than I'm crazy LOL)
I was building a workbench and I was going to build in a router table, and I got to thinking that I already have most of what I need on the CNC - all I really need to add was a table top and fence - well here's what I came up with
Full article and pictures HERE
So while this isn't *really* CNC related - I still wanted to share it here - maybe give a few other people some ideas![]()

It's also missing the standard plastic guard over the bit as it sticks through one's work piece. As someone who once routed a tendon in my index finger, I wouldn't work on one without the guard again.
Thanks - yeah safety is an issue - I want things to be safe for sure
for the opening I was thinking I might rout slots in the fence and make a new sliding fence for that - so basically the fence that's there now would really just be support for the "real" fence - that way I can close up that hole depending on various bits - it's kinda like you'd see in a router fence now I guess (stealing ideas from them)
as far as the cover over the bit - I kinda figured the router itself was a good overhead cover - there's no way of accidentally putting my hand down on the bit - but I'll look for ideas for other guards and things I can do to protect my hands and fingers for sure![]()
