    Smile New to CNC

Hey guys, great forum you have going here! Just wanted to let you know I just ordered kleinbauer's phoenix plans. I'll keep you updated. (I plan on using the 3 axis unipolar chopper setup from hobby cnc.) We'll see how it goes. Since I'm 17 I pretty much have to get all this stuff by my parents. I actually ran across a homemade cnc page on some college kid's site was interested, so I googled it. Now I'm here. Really interesting stuff. I'll let you know when I make some progress on my new mill.

I was 16 and I did it. It was pretty cool making it and seeing what it can do. Even if you make a cheap prototype wood cnc at first to see it. Just read the forums here and you will learn a lot.

For a mill, you might want a bit more torque, but it also depends on what speed and how much money your willing to put into it.

I'd go for the 200oz motors, they're only a few dollars more, right?

so, still planning on the phoenix design and 200 oz-in kit from hobbycnc. Just wondering, has anyone built this using acme leadscrews? if so, what thread type? any other comments/ideas for this design would be appreciated. The plans for it are probably in the mail as I sent John Kleinbauer my money a few days ago. Thanks

just recieved the plans from mr. kleinbauer. They are very detailed and easy to follow. His support forum is also great, and once you get to see things from his perspective, you know why he acts the way he does. he's actually a nice guy.

I have put together a shopping list and am looking for a good sheet of delrin on e-bay. I plan to order .5" pvc from indplastic.com. The window channel can be purchased along with the flanged bearings. I will visit a sports store for the rollerblade bearings then autozone for fuel tubing and homedepot for the rest. I am going to use the hobby cnc 127 oz kit. I am still trying to decide between mach2 and turbocnc. I will probably use turbo cnc because I have an old 400mhz and it costs less. any thoughts here?

Get the rollerblade bearings from Ebay. Much cheaper.

i'm actually doing the opposite. I plan to make it a little longer (depending on the size of the gas pipe i find) and wider. He said he would have made it wider and you probably can. He just didn't because he hurt his back and didnt want to move a huge thing around. are you using the shellac or the gun metal gray he reccomends?

No I didn't, I didn't buy his plans so I don't know what's his recomendation, the only thing I used, is the design, but I should have, would have save some cash, you know when you try to reinvent the wheel
