Hi guys, I've been reading the forum for quite some time and read somewhere here that the best thing to do is to stop thinking and start doing. So this is my first post ![]() Anyhow, I've started my first CNC-mill project with my buddy. We've got all the electronics figured out (We built 3 linistep stepper boards and brakeout board). We only have 150oz motors on hand, but ordered gears from QTC gears (excelent service btw.) to get 1:3.6 ratio so that ought to be enough. In a rather lucky stroke we came by 3x1meter THK-HSR45 rails and trucks. so those are our X and Y axis. For the Z axis we are using 70cm thk-hsr35. We are using ACME lead screws and 2x angular contact bearings to hold them in place. The X axis is on a 50x50 L profile and 2xHSR45 are bolted on each side. Only 1 truck is used for the gantry pr.side . Hope that is enough. The Y and Z axis are prototyped with MDF so we can make less expensive mistakes before we cut some aluminium on a waterjet. I've attached a picture of the machine, what is done right now at least. Best regards from Iceland, Gunnar. |

I was offered the AEG GSL 600E straight grinder for a low low price. Do you guys think that it will turn out good ? Here are the spec's for the grinder. • 600 watt motor • Variable speed straight grinder • Metal gearbox for precise rotation • Long spindle for easy access to awkward places • Precision metal gearbox with double bearing seating of the spindle • Weight only 1.9kg • Ergo switch • Also suitable for stationary use • Collet diameter: 6mm |

Thanks RomanLini, I was think about redesignin the Z axis, reducing the travel from 60cm to 35cm. I think that would minimize flex stresses and errors. I was think about it,now it's decided |
