Got my servos and controllers

Hi All.

Well a great day has arrived. I have been patiently gathering parts for my build and last week I took the plunge and bought my motors.

I was going to buy them from a local supplier who stocks Chinese made servos. These are brushed AC servos and the whole package is very neat. To buy new the set of three servos, controllers and power supply is around the AU$1400 mark.

Now I have a favourite seller on eBay called fa-parts in South Korea and I must say I've never taken much notice of the motors and controllers they have in stock but I just visited the site last week to have a look at motion parts. I bought a couple of pairs of NSK rails and trucks from them last year and i was mighty impressed with the condition of the parts (used) and the speedy service. Fa-parts also deliver free to Aussie so that's another thing you don't have to worry about.

Anyway. I was surfing their eBay shop and saw some really nice Japanese AC servos with controllers and a Mach 3 interface board. I sent fa-parts a query about the motors and they sent me a link to the manufacturers site and an extremely well written manual.

These are Yaskawa 400W brushless AC servos with a whopping 2028 pulses per turn on the encoders! All of this for US$992! On my modest machine (900x600x200mm) they should go like the clappers!

Enough talk, here's the porn

I've seen these on ebay and have seriously considered getting a set myself. Let us know how they work and most importantly how hard it is to set them up. Good luck!

Doh! I meant DC servos! These are DC servos from the local supplier.

I really wanted AC servos if I was going to go with them rather than steppers. Anyway, I've gone through the manual and the set up looks pretty straight forward. Still, by saying that I've probably condemned myself to months of trouble shooting and tweaking!
