I am considering building a Pipe Dream. I choose the Pipe Dream because of the low cost. My goal is to learn how to operate the machine then upgrade to a larger more accurate machine like the Joes 2006. I am going to purchase electronics and steppers that I could also use on the Joes. My question is can I mix different screws on different axis’? For an example, can I use ½-10 2 start on the X axis, ½-8 2 start on the Yaxis and regular 1/4 -20 rod on the Z axis? If I can, I would like to use the Pipe Dream X-axis screw on the Joes Y-axis, the Pipe Dream Y-axis screw on the Joes Z-axis, and I would only have to purchase a screw for Joes X-axis. That would save some money in the long run AND increase the precision and speed of the Pipe Dream. Jeff |

| Should be able to. Your motor tuning for each axis will be different but as long as the acceleration and IPM for each is set the same for the X and Y you should have any cutting issues. I've seen guys use belts on the X and lead screws on the Y and Z. |
