I am using thompson ball screw, ball nut and end block for both my X and Y axis. Recently connected the motors and have everything moving properly. Does anyone know the procedure for setting the proper backlash on the end block? I am not certain what the tolerance should be? Thanks |

| There should be zero backlash in a fixed end block. There is a specified torque (you will need torque wrench) for the nut or preload in the manual. I would preload no more than 10% of the max axial load rating on the fixed end block. Ten Percent seems to be the max recommended by ballscrew manufactures in general for preloading their ballnuts and I imagine would they recommend for ball nuts would be similar. Or you can do what I did. Tighten it down until there is no backlash and everything spins nice and free. |

| Thanks for the reply, I was most likely going to go with the second option and tighten it till it "feels" good. Which brings me to my second question...what type of wrench to use... I have a torque wrench, but any idea on what these type of nuts are called? It looks like it takes a type of "spanner" wrench for lack of a better term. Thanks |
