Smile Another newbie, Another Machine, same old ????

Long, long time lurker. There are so many different machines to make, it was hard to decide on which direction to go, so i stole ideas from here and there. I built this over the last year or so, do not have allot of time to spare right now, but getting there. Please any suggestions/ criticism welcome for the improvement of my router, is very welcome. You guys have been doing this for a long time, and there is so much knowledge here.

As you can see most of the mechanicals are done, now onto the electronics. I have read and read, and read some more, on what to use for motors and there size. I had intended on going with a plug and play kit, which i still might, but i am not sure if it will give me what i need. The X and Y axis are 25 mm dia - 5 mm pitch, ballscrew and nuts, beefy, but free. The Z axis is 1/2" -10 acme screw which i intend on replacing later with a ballscrew and nut. Table is 30" by 58", odd size maybe , but that is the length of the THK rails i happen to come by. Z travel 6" to table. I am also working on building a 4th Axis similar to this, but direct drive reduction box, rather than with a 90' as shown.

So, let me know what you think, good or bad.

Put some indexing plates at the X, Y, Z axis cranks and you can use it for CNC (Cranial Numerical Control) applications like drilling a sequence or pattern of holes even before you install the motors and drive system electronics.

Nice clean design BTW.

Smile

Thanks for the reply's, i put the handles on just to move everything around, great idea to put index's on, so it can be used manually. Hopefully after Christmas i will be able to get the motors etc. I plan on using this for a variety of things, custom bike parts, car parts, wood carvings. My main interest is in making Lithophanes as gifts for family and friends. I came across a you tube video a while back, on tube type Lithophanes as well as flat. Wow, really got my attention. Still lots to do on the router, finding time and extra money is tough right now, but we will get there.
