Exclamation Voodoo Collet nut playing tricks on me!

I have a 2.2KW Chinese spindle with both the stock and a Mari tool Collet nut. I kept getting confused on which direction I was supposed to rotate to tighten or loosen the nut and then I found something really odd. Sometimes the direction to loosen the nut CHANGES. This happens with both stock and standard nut. Am I missing something or is my Collet nut Playing tricks on me?

All the spring collet I've used are like that. When you unscrew them, the nut becomes loose until you hit the edge of the collet then a little bit harder to pull the collet that is stuck in his taper...

Talking

The bitterness of poor quality lingers long after the cheap price is forgotton.
In other words, what do you expect from chinese junk tooling.

Buy me a Beer?

If the collet is sticking in the taper you'll see that. Make sure the taper is clean, and if there are any scratches on the collets, replace them.

Hi guys, at work we have a high end variable speed die grinder made by bosch or Aeg. It too does this. They are manufactured to do this, the reason is that sometimes a collect will stick in the spindle, so they make the collet with a groove or step on the end. When you loosen the collet nut it will be free to turn until it hits this step/groove, when turned further it withdraws the collet from the spindle. The problem with this is that after a while the collet nut and or the collet wear a bit and even tho the collet is free from the spindle taper it will still hold the shank of your tool. The remedy is to tap the collet nut or shank lightly with something, we use the collet nut spanner.
Va-voom problem solved.
Hope this will help.
