Some Pics of my "mostly" homemade dust extractor.

Having built and used my homemade CNC router. It became clear very quickly, that I'd need some kind of dust pickup. Especially when cutting MDF. That stuff gets everywhere.
Hoovers are too noisy for my liking, so I set about collecting parts to make my own, (free, of course). The only part I paid for so far was the Inverter drive. (£20) ebay. I still have to get some ducting. AKA drainpipe. So that I can get the vaccum where it's needed. I have an old pillow case to act as a dust collection bag.

Hopefully my nights of "bogey basketball" will soon be comming to an end.

Strat....Where did the motor/blower come from? That looks like it'll move some air!

Strat probably won't know the answer, due to the fact that it's not his. So I'll answer instead.

The motor is a 3 phase, explosion proof unit made by leeson. It was donated to me as it hadn't been in use for a while and would likely never be used again. It came from a blowbar system, which is basically a long air bar and brush, used to blow dust off thin material. It sure does move some air. At 50% rated RPM, it reallys sucks, (meaning good). At 100% it will suck your face off. Runs very very quiet too.

I hope to run 4" pipe around the garage so I can use it on all my dust creating tools. Just need to come up with a good way to shut off the openings not in use.

would really like to see YOUR setup when complete spring and nice weather gets here will be adding a shop on the house and had been looking into doing this type of thing ......... whats the old saying a pic is worth a 1000 words nice job though

Good idea Mr Bean.

After a week of experimental cutting with my machine I now understand how critical good extraction is.

I'm using a typical 'industrial' vaccum cleaner at the moment and the noise is not good.

To think I was worried about a bit of machine vibration !

Will be interested to see how you fit the pipes into your garage.
